I've been looking on OAC head recently, trying to plan out getting some gear. Assuming the loot tables are correct, there seem to be only 3 trinkets worth using for fire PVE spec.
Frost-Fire oac-head.com/items/763/
Swamp Eye oac-head.com/items/14/
Knowledgeable Mark oac-head.com/items/71/
Frost-Fire seems to be the best, due to the crit increase. The second slot doesn't seem as clear. Swamp Eye vs Knowledgeable Mark are pretty much crit % vs spell power. Is there a crit% that is "good enough" where the most dps is gain from SP?
Just looking for some thoughts from you guys, or maybe another trinket that I'm just not seeing.

Most mages will end up with mark and frost fire, and they will use one or two swamp eyes till they have both. Frost fire is probably at best the second soul buy, and you will end up with one eventually vis a vis the four piece bonus, even if the stats sucked. The answer to your question is "you can over look crit for spell power when the piece is question has 30+ spell power and some gimme stats." 30 spell power trumps 18 crit.
mark recipe be a pain in the ass to both find then fully craft. No shame in using swamp eye till you're done.

Well, respective to melee classes, your listed character sheet crit rate will be pretty low. Fahid is 4-4 accessories, mostly character complete except for lava and vanity epics and he sits at 29% crit. Two of your four class accessories have zero crit, cloak and neck, so you are punting those slots. The thing is that mages get hidden crit from talents, and it varies throughout a battle. First add a flat 6% for fire spells from tier 1 fire tree talent. Then, your crit rate can fluctuate from +3% to 9% during battle due to fire ball crits providing a passive buff. assuming you start every battle with an auto crit fireball, you will have almost 40% fire crit rate, which can ramp up to 45% if you manage your fire ball crits and keep your buff at 3/3 and hope for 80% uptime. Working backwards, you can see that changing your gear makes a slightly smaller dent in your effective crit rate than playing well and managing your fireball crits. The 3% buff from a fireball crit is roughly equivalent to 40 crit rating from gear, which would be two pretty good pieces.
I would aim for over 40% (fire) crit rate after all your other sources, so 25-27 from gear your low end target, and 27-29% once your gear ramps up. Most of the best crit pieces are easy(ish) to get though (class ring, pvp ring, gsl staff)
I reserve the right to edit this post, as I don't have access to a few things to check a some number
